PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Maria Cabrera and Pablo Pizano, we’d like to thank you for joining us on this special occasion of our first virtual Flamenco on Film. We are excited to be back to share this cinematic look into flamenco with an expanded global audience.

While facing daunting challenges, arts organizations, artists, and promoters have found innovative ways to adapt and survive during the pandemic. Returning to the arts scene with a virtual festival has given us a creative outlet and a renewed vision to continue presenting and supporting flamenco.

It has been an incredible year-long experience working with Felix Vazquez, our amazing filmmaker in Spain, to bring you Flamenco on Film and 16 world-renowned artists from Sevilla. It also became a special way to partner and collaborate with other flamenco organizations and individuals and connect with our friends in Spain and Mexico.

Your virtual passport to Flamenco on Film provides you with a glimpse into the world of flamenco and the many talented people, beautiful places and spaces, and events that warm our hearts and souls. We hope that you walk away knowing something more than you did before about this art form and the people who devote their lives to flamenco, onstage, behind the scenes, and in the audience.

I want to thank the many exceptional artists, friends, and sponsors who participated in our virtual festival, such as the California Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, Tourist Office of Spain in Los Angeles, Jackson Browne, City of Santa Barbara, Old Spanish Days Fiesta, the SB Historical Museum, Cristina Heeren, Cristina Hoyos, Santa Barbara dancers, and our creative crew from Spain and Santa Barbara. And a special thanks to Felix Vazquez and Estela Zatania. Without their talent and unwavering commitment, this would not be possible.

A hug is a powerful and comforting gesture that, in real life, has been in short supply during these trying times due to the distance we’ve had to maintain. I want to join the Festival de Jerez and Ibérica Contemporánea and extend a big virtual hug to everyone joining us from around the world, especially to the families of those we lost.

And when it is safe, we hope Flamenco on Film will inspire and encourage you to see flamenco live in your city. It is the most important way for artists to present their work and for you to experience and support this beautiful art form.

That being said, this is also a personal invitation to you to visit our beautiful city by the sea and attend the next live in-person edition of the Flamenco Arts Festival coming soon.  ¡Hasta pronto!

Un abrazo,

Vibiana

Y agradecimiento especial a Félix Vázquez y Estela Zatania.
