Tercera Llamada Synopsis
Maria Juncal comes to Santa Barbara with a personal note. Her production, Tercera Llamada - Moment of Enchantment, is a direct reference to the enormous emotions that she experiences while standing at the edge of the stage just before the curtain goes up and the final curtain call. She bestows a tender kiss with her hand on the dance floor and earnestly prays for that ultimate on-stage union of body and soul.
The production is based on the world that surrounds the artist - the before, during, and after entering the stage - a universal ritual for Juncal. Prayers, hopes, fears, expectations, and nerves are but a few of the emotions that engulf any artist at the moment they stand in the wings and are about to realize that magical moment – their presence before an audience.
Tercera Llamada is a collaboration with the master Ciro and music director Juan Parrilla. Always a pupil, she seeks to learn from the masters that have helped to shape flamenco and that now help to give texture and color to her choreography. Maria Juncal remains dedicated to arte jondo, flamenco’s deep and basic essence, and it is through that devotion that she is able to invoke the spirit of ancient gypsy rituals and the essence of the Spanish soul while maintaining a deeply personal and contemporary interpretation of life and art.
"Anyone who has seen Maria Juncal dance, has been surprised by her scenic maturity, the perfection and depth of her movements and the passion and force that she stamps on her dance, resembling the biggest bailaoras of this century and at the same time, discovering unpublished facets of plastic expression, of pure personal creation, startling the spectator, before such an incredible demonstration of fire and beauty." LAS PALMAS
"It is a great honor to have the presence of a bailaora as Maria Juncal, probably one of the most talented at present and that major scenic force offers." EDUARDO VEITÍA, DIRECTOR DEL BALLET ESPAÑOL DE CUBA. |
